You Made It Happen! Resolution for Local Control Wins at CalCities!
Big news: the Murrieta Resolution passed! You did it! This is a major step forward for local control over zoning and land-use decisions in California.
Delegates at the League of California Cities Annual Conference and Expo overwhelmingly approved the resolution, which calls for a statewide working group to explore ways to strengthen cities’ authority over local housing, zoning, and land-use decisions. The final vote met with thunderous applause, reflecting broad support and uniting hundreds of communities from across California. More details on ONV’s website and on our Wednesday statewide Zoom meeting; or read on:
As an ONV supporter, you made this happen.
Your donations allowed us to attend and exhibit at the conference, communicate and coordinate with groups from across the state, and speak directly with city delegates about why this issue is crucial to the future of our neighborhoods.
Your outreach to your local elected officials was pivotal. In all, delegates from 235 California cities voted — just one more than the minimum needed for the vote to take place. Every city mattered. Every vote counted. Every dollar you donated made a difference!
Thank you for standing up and speaking out. Your voice is being heard! This is real progress — and together we can build on it — but there’s still more work ahead.
The resolution brought together communities to discuss concerns about the destructive impact of state housing mandates. Before it got to the final vote, however, the resolution was revised in committee, and the original reference to a state constitutional amendment was removed. (This may be added back in at a later date.)
ONV believes a constitutional amendment needs to be part of that discussion. Also, while the current resolution looks toward 2030, ONV will continue advocating to bring the issue before voters in 2028.
The momentum is growing, and with your help, we can get there together!
We are deeply grateful for all you have done to support this effort. Your contributions, encouragement, and willingness to spread the word helped bring us to this important moment. You also make it possible for ONV to keep showing up, speaking out, and working to ensure that residents like you—not Sacramento politicians alone—have a meaningful voice in decisions impacting your neighborhood.
This is your community, your city, and your future. We are proud to stand with you and help make sure your voice is heard.
With gratitude,
