Cal Cities; Murrieta Edition

The City of Murrieta’s Mayor Pro Tempore, Ron Holliday, and Council Member Lori Stone are joining us on our weekly Zoom on Wednesday, September 2nd, at 6 pm.

We need your help! This Resolution needs to pass at the Cal Cities Convention on Friday, September 25th, and there are many steps along the way that you can help to get this there. You can help!

What is this Resolution? What is a Resolution?

 

This Resolution “directs the League of California Cities to establish a statewide working group to evaluate a constitutional amendment or other legislative, policy, or ballot-based strategies to restore and strengthen local authority over housing and land use decisions.”

In short, support ONV c(4)’s mission to pass a ballot proposition to amend the State’s Constitution for local control of zoning and housing. If you are thinking that this is right up our alley, it is!

A Resolution is simply a policy that an organization takes to move in a certain direction. In this case, it moves the organization towards stopping the State’s takeover of local control of zoning and housing rules and returning local control.

The Cal Cities Process

Step 1: Pass the Housing Committee on September 17th

On September 17th at 10 a.m., via Zoom, the Housing Committee will meet to take public comment and vote on whether to pass this resolution and move it to the next step.

We will be sending out an email action alert with instructions on how to email and leave a comment for the meeting.

Step 2: Pass the Resolutions Committee on September 24th

At the convention, on Thursday at 1pm, the resolutions committee will meet and will consider whether to pass this resolution; if it passes, it will move on to the last step -the convention floor. The public will not be invited; only those who have paid for a convention pass will be able to watch and comment.

Step 3: Pass the floor vote on September 25th

On Friday at 9am, Cal Cities will have the resolution on the floor for a vote by the voting delegates, if it has passed the prior two steps. Only those with a convention pass will be able to attend the vote, which will not be live-streamed.

Only voting delegates or alternates may vote on the Resolution.
